A viral infection that currently has no cure. HIV is passed during sexual intercourse, as well as when HIV-infected needles are shared and from infected mother to infant. HIV attacks a person's immune system, leading him or her to be susceptible to a host of diseases and conditions, and eventually progress to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
